Arrived in China (Shanghai) in August 2006, originated from Turkey (Izmir) and born on June 21, 1983, Umut Utku, E. gave his debut match for Shanghai Kickers FC (former Shanghai Bulls) in the season of 2019/2020. It might be the case that the first time Umut played for the team was even years earlier for 1 or 2 matches.

His roots also go back to his brother Özgür E., who played for Shanghai Kickers many years ago, but his agile playing style paid tributes to his continuous raising weight ending up in full retirement from football and relocating to Japan. Hope exists for Umut that this DNA part will not be inherited by him:).

Umut playing style is not with much emotion, the ball comes and leaves him quickly. Umut plays quite save and prioritizes not creating major risks, instead focussing on simple passing and doing what a defender should do: cleaning out the balls or sometimes bringing down a player.

It is funny that for years his interest in football in Shanghai was rather 0, but deep inside that was awaken by Dictator Teamcoach Bilgin, who enrolled him for one season to “Türkspor Shanghai FC”. Now a guy who for years forgot that football even exists and focussing on cats travels from one part of the city to the other just to play football. Individualism does not exist for Umut, he puts always the team and its members first!
