Key news and reports: WEEKEND 23/24 APRIL 2016

16s BOYS' TITLE HOPES ENDED - 12s GIRLS PIPPED IN 7-GOAL THRILLER - LATE GOAL EARNS 14s BOYS VICTORY

Our 16s Boys visited Fishers Field this weekend to take on Foxhall in a top-table clash knowing that only a victory would keep alive our title ambitions. After a first half of few chances it remained a goalless stalemate at half time. However, after the restart Foxhall began to take the initiative and eventually broke the deadlock after YMCA's defence was caught out with a long ball over the top and the home striker finished well. It remained 1-0 until the end and it was a result which clinched for Foxhall their 2nd successive league championship trophy without losing a game in the last two seasons. YMCA claim the runners up medals. At Seafield our 14s played hosts to Poulton Town. Just a few eeks ago a last-minute goal gave us a 1-0 victory and this reverse fixture followed a similar pattern. Fenn Breakell gave us an early lead but we failed to capilise on several chances created. Just before the break Poulton levelled with a fortuetous goal, a cross from the right touchline eluding everybody in the YMCA goalmouth and ball ended up in the far top corner of the YMCA goal. Although YMCA had the better of the 2nd half the points looked like being shared but with just 3 mins remaining Spencer Baxendale snatched a 2-1 victory for YMCA with a superbly taken goal.

Our 12s Girls travelled to Preston to take on Cadley and despite falling behind to an early goal we battled back to score twice and take a 2-1 lead into the interval. In an end to end 2nd half both teams added to their scores but in the end the home side made more of their chances and finished up 4-3 winners in a highly entertaining contest which ended our slim hopes of claiming the title. Isabelle Kells bagged scores all YMCA's goals, her second successive hat trick.
