Key news and reports: WEEKEND 5/6 MARCH 2016

We may have been into March but the winter weather continued to hit us. During the previous week there was more flooding in the North of the county and heavy snow in East Lancs. Gale force winds were still blowing across the Fylde Coast accompanied by heavy showers with wet snow falling on the Friday which soon turned to rain. This weekend though was cold but sunny throughout making conditions perfect for football and there were goals galore at Seafield on the Sunday. Our 14s took on a depleted Blackpool Rangers side who could only muster up nine players but despite this handicap they restricted our boys to just a 2-0 lead at half time. Understandably though the visitors tired in the 2nd half during which we added a further six goals with Rangers notching a consolation for an 8-1 YMCA win. Spencer Baxendale leading the way with a 5-goal haul. Meanwhile on the senior pitch our 16s Boys were romping to a 10-0 victory over Layton Blues with Jack Bishop grabbing four of our goals and Bradley Jones a hat trick.

On the Sunday morning at Seafield our 12s Girls took on AFC Darwen and although the visitors started very brightly it was YMCA who opened the scoring with a strike by Ellie McNally. It remained 1-0 at the interval but midway through the 2nd period Darwen netted an equaliser and it finished all square at 1-1, probably a fair result on the day. On the Saturday morning our 12s Boys faced champions elect BJFF Blades and it was the visitors who had most of the early play. They took a 10th minute lead but as YMCA came more into the game Ashley Waterfield notched an equalier but Blades soon regained the lead to reach the break 2-1 ahead. YMCA made a determined affort in the 2nd half to find another equaliser but couldn't take any of several chances created and Blades held on for a 2-1 victory. This was a very commendable effort though by our boys against a very strong unbeaten side.
