Match Report

First game of 2013 for the Reserves and they were looking to carry on their good form and make it 3 wins a row. A strong starting 11 was selected with Tester and Ant on the bench.

The game kicked off and Sandy were attacking straight away with Jonnie and Gregory testing the opposition's keeper from range. Flitwick were fighting back as they constantly tried to attack down the left but Stratton and Dennis were preventing any real trouble. Webby unfortunately went off injured and was replaced by Tester. Flitwick started to come into the game a little bit and were attacking down both wings giving Dora and Hales some trouble but Flitwick couldn't get through. This first real chance came when Gregory picked up the ball, cut inside the defender and curled an attempt on goal which went just over bar. We also won a few corners but still couldn't find a breakthrough. Dora and Dennis both were making great runs down the wings a delivering in crosses but no-one could connect with the crosses. But a goal came when Gregory and Jonnie linked up well and it resulted in Gregory slotting past the keeper to make it 1-0. But within minutes of Sandy scoring Flitwick scored with a quick counter attack when the ball was driven in and surprisingly the Flitwick striker hit the bar from inside the 6 yard box then his rebound luckily deflected in.

A few tactical changes were made with Dennis going into centre-mid, Stratton moving up to ring wing and Tester going to right back. But the second half was all about Flitwick. They were constantly putting pressure on the Sandy defence and within quick succession Flitwick grabbed two goals after two defensive mix ups in the box to give themselves a 3-1 lead. Sandy started to respond and the midfield and strikers started to make some good attacking play.  Baines and Dennis were supplying some great balls through to our strikers but no goals came in the end and the game finished in a 3-1 loss for the reserves.

A great first half performance from the lads but the second half proved to be very disappointing. Man of the match was awarded to Dora for a solid first half performance.
