Match Report

After a busy pre season with training twice weekly and 3 friendly games under our belts, the team felt ready for the beginning of the season.

Dunton reserves was our opening challenge, which the team were looking forward to, as the results from last season were in our favour.

The team not only feeling good but looking the part in their new kit, sponsored by K and I Services, we were ready for the game to start.

Jonny captain for the day started with the kick off, placing the ball deep into our holding midfield, this was soon put under pressure as the quick feet of the opposition closed us down, calmly the ball was played across pitch and up into their half, some excellent challenges found Sandy finding shots on goal, one going wide for a goal kick. Dunton's centre back took the goal kick, this was a long ball over the top onto a very quick front line.

The determination of our defenders soon cleared the ball back up pitch, holding the challenge back, each time we attacked and Dunton winning the position of play the long balls were seen over the top finding their front line, the well practise set piece lead to the opening goal. Sandy took this on the chin as a wake up call and replied with the equaliser, Brad laying the ball across to Jonny, starting Jonnie's  tally of goals off for this season.

With good possession and ball to feet, early passing kept us looking very good as we pushed on the attacks. Their seemed to be a personal clash from the ref to one of our players,(this seemed to be stemmed back from some years ago, when they both played in the same team). Decisions against us were becoming frustrating as the game progressed. As much as we defended the long balls paid off for Dunton as the score line started to increase, the half time whistle blew with a 4-1 score against us.

A positive chat bringing the thoughts back to the positive mood, we soon got stuck into the second half, with excellent defending we turned again to the attacks, Dunton's keeper was the luckiest man on the pitch as he put his body in the way deflecting our shots away, even diving the wrong way he managed to make a save. With more ball to feet work Brad placed yet another ball into the path of Jonny where he notched up our goals to 2.

All three subs were bought into play during the second half, increasing our strength and tactical play, soon after Chris was subbed in, he found himself on goal, dragging his shot wide of the post.

Not the result that we expected for our opening game, but all in all we played some very nice football, experiences from the day will be taken away and used to increase our ability as a team.

Man of the match was awarded to Pete Rogan for a solid performance.

Let's keep our heads and take this one on the chin. The result certainly doesn't reflect the good football and team effort of the game.
