Match Report

With the kit turning up twenty minutes before kick-off, the reserves had only eleven players this week with people being away or at work. Stratford had to go in at centre back to cover our missing defenders and a couple of changes were made to the attacking four as Sandy used the 4-2-3-1 formation.

The game kicked off and both teams were contesting for the ball. Flitwick made attacks down their left side giving Gippo and Ant a lot of defensive work. Sandy made attacks of their own with Dora, Gregory, Stratton and Dennis all linking up. Flitwick were shooting from range but Phil was making some good early saves to deny them. Sandy continued to attack down the left side and Dora chipped the ball over to Gregory who had a finely placed curled shot tipped round the post by the goalkeeper. Flitwick then took the lead after twenty minutes when their left winger was given time to cut inside and curl the ball into the far top corner. As play restarted Sandy made more chances with crosses coming in but no-one there in the box to convert. After a couple of miss-hit corners Dora curled one towards the keeper who was unchallenged to tip it over. Sandy continued to battle on with Stratford, Dennis, Hales and Jordan making good challenges and winning headers. Just before half time Sandy took another blow as Flitwick scored to make it 2-0.

After half time Sandy came out looking to get more shots on target and form more attacks. Flitwick started attacking down both wings and their number 11 striker was becoming difficult to contain. Flitwick extended the lead to three early in the second half. Sandy started passing the ball about and were attacking in numbers but the Flitwick keeper pulled off some good saves. Gregory, Dennis & Dora all tried from range but no goal came. Stratford was pushed back up front into his normal role as we searched for goals but this didn’t happen and Flitwick hit a quick double making it 5-0. Hales dropped into defence and made some great clearances and tackles which resulted in giving him a well deserved man of the match. The game finished 5-0 and Sandy knew they could have done better in this game.
