Match Report

Sandy were awarded three points and a 1 - 0 win for this fixture due to Riseley fielding 4 1st team players. The Beds FA ruling states that only 3 players from a higher level may play for a reserve side.

Match was played: score 4 - 1 to Riseley: Match Report below.

Sandy struggled to get into the game from the start and the team from Riseley settled much quicker taking hold of the game with an early goal. Sandy responded well to this early set back by creating a couple of good chances. Craig Morse had a shot from a tight angle saved, and then under pressure from a defender failed to get on to the end of an excellent cross from Dean Haines.

Some good work on the left by Brad Dennis created a space for a long range effort by Ian Hammett, and Daniel Bailey also had a couple of speculative long range efforts which didn't trouble Riseley's goalkeeper. Unfortunatley all of this pressure came to nothing and Riseley re-established control by scoring mid way through the first half to make it 2-0 at half time.

Riseley started strongly again in the second half and scored early on, after one of their players was afforded too much space on the edge of the area and his speculative shot crept under the body of keeper Matt Couldridge.

This seemed to galvanise Sandy who after some good passing created a couple of long range efforts for Brad Dennis and Dan Bailey although they failed to trouble the keeper. Craig Morse then hit the post from 20 yards after some good work on the left. Sandy's improved football was rewarded soon after as Ian Hammett found space in the box and got on the end of a cross from Dean Haines to slot the ball past the stranded goalkeeper.

Riseley though killed the game off in the final minutes with their fourth goal of the afternoon. The result leaves Sandy A still looking for their first league win since christmas.
