Lytham St Annes YMCA Girls U-16s 2-2 Burnley Girls & Ladies

Despite taking a 2-goal lead YMCA had to eventually settle for a draw in an entertaining contest at a bitterly cold and windy Seafield Rd last Sunday.  Going into the game with a 100% league record YMCA were made to work hard against their impressive East Lancs opponents.  The first half was a tight affair with chances few and far between although Isabelle Kells did hit a post with Ellie McNally putting another couple of efforts just wide.  YMCA were also thankful to goalkeeper Olivia Neal, who was assured throughout, for some fine stops and it remained goalless at half time. After the break though YMCA came out with more purpose and they broke the deadlock when after some fine work from Kells on the left she found the top corner of the net with an excellent lob over the goalkeeper's head.  Further YMCA chances fell to McNally and Georgia Norman but both were thwarted by the visiting goalkeeper who was in impressive form.  YMCA did increase the lead though when Kells took advantage of some hesitancy in the Burnley defence to sneak in and fire home her 2nd goal to make it 2-0.  With 8 minutes remaining Burnley managed to pull a goal back after YMCA failed to clear at a corner allowing the Burnley striker to make it 2-1.  With the ascendancy now with the visitors they equalised 3 mins later when the same striker ran through the heart of the YMCA defence and slotted the ball home to make it 2-2.  Although YMCA had a late chance to snatch victory it was not to be and they had to be content with a point .  In a good all round team display Honey Griffith in midfield and Lara Pilling in defence were both excellent throughout.
