Lytham St Annes YMCA Girls U-16s 5-3 Cadley

YMCA progressed through to the next round of the cup after a hard working display at a pleasantly sunny Seafield Road last Sunday. Both teams were evenly matched in the early stages but it was YMCA who took the lead in the 10th minute when Isabelle Kells beat the keeper to a bouncing ball and headed it over her head before firing it into the empty net.  Their lead was then doubled when Ellie McNally played an excellent pass to Kells who made no mistake to make it 2-0.  Cadley were always in the game and after hesitation in the YMCA defence they reduced the deficit to 2-1. YMCA quickly regained their 2-goal advantage though with Kells completing her hat trick with a superb finish following another fine move again orchestrated by McNally.  YMCA were playing some excellent football with Annabelle Jackson causing all sorts of problems and it was from her fine dribbling which resulted in her unselfishly crossing the ball for Kells to score a simple goal and make it 4-1.  Kells completed an outstanding first half after she once again got in front of her defender and raced towards goal before slotting the ball into the net to make it 5-1 going into the break.  After half time Cadley came out with purpose and YMCA were grateful to goalkeeper Olivia Neal who pulled off some outstanding saves throughout.  Pressure on YMCA continued to mount and it was no surprise when the visitors scored again.  Another Cadley goal soon followed to make it 5-3 and YMCA looked up against it. The visitors continued to launch everything into attack but the YMCA defence solidly held firm with Megan Lewis and Lara Pilling particularly outstanding making numerous vital interceptions and they managed to hold and clinch a place in the next round.  In a highly entertaining and sporting game Georgia Norman and Saisha Bracken were notable for YMCA.
