Lytham St Annes YMCA Girls U-16s 6-4 Feniscowles & Pleasington

YMCA kicked off their new campaign with an excellent performance to beat last year's league winners at a sunny Seafield Road last Sunday. They started the game in self assured manner and playing some excellent passing football to continue the form from last season. They took the lead early when after fine work from Georgia Norman down the left wing she crossed for Isabelle Kells to slot the ball home. They doubled their lead with new signing Annabelle Jackson calmly finishing after the ball broke to her from a throw in. Things got even better when Kells again used her pace and skill to put YMCA 3-0 ahead.  The visitors though did not give up and hesitation in the YMCA defence allowed them to make it 3-1. YMCA then upped their performance level and a great pass from Honey Griffith found Norman who glided the ball into the net off a post to make it 4-1 with Fensicowles replying again to make it 4-2 at the break. With further determined YMCA play after the restart Kells broke away from the visitors defence and finished superbly to complete her hat trick and put YMCA 5-2 ahead and Griffith capped a fine display by finding space in the area to shoot home in off the post for a 6th YMCA goal.  The visitors though showed great spirit and scored twice more to reduce the deficit with 10 mins remaining but YMCA held firm to claim an important victory and start the season on a high. In an excellent all round team performance goalkeeper Olivia Neal was outstanding and brave throughout, defying injury to play the whole game. Debutant Megan Lewis was dominant in defence as was Ellie McNally in midfield.
