SUNDAY 29th MARCH 2015

With bright sunshine on the first day of spring the previous weekend we thought that winter was now behind us but we got a reality check this weekend as rain and strong winds hit the Fylde Coast. After heavy overnight rain the pitches at Seafield Rd were left with standing water on them on Saturday and we had to cancel both our Under 8 and 9 fixtures. On the Sunday both our 11s Girls and 12s Boys away games were postponed for the same reason so only two YMCA teams were in action on this last weekend of March

Our Under 16s, who were league and cup double champions in last season's Under 15 Section kept on course to repeat the same achievement this season. They took on local rivals Lytham Maroons in the Hogan Cup semi finals at the Stanley Park Arena and our boys produced an outstanding team performance to claim a place in the Bloomfield Rd final in May. An Alex Rhodes hat trick helped us to a superb 6-1 victory with Quaid Henderson, Kai Leyland and Carnan Dawson all on target also.  At the same venue earlier in the day our Under 13s were also in semi final action. Our opponents were title contenders Thornton Reds so this was a real tough assignment for our boys on a wet and windy morning and we found ourselves two goals behind midway through the 1st half. However, showing great character and determination we fought back to level the scores at 2-2 at the interval with strikes by Spencer Baxendale and Brad Jones. After the restart Thornton netted twice more to restore their 2-goal advantage and although a goal by Jake Oldendorp reduced our deficit again we just couldn't find the elusive equaliser and were very unlucky to be pipped 4-3. A great effort by our boys though.
