WEEKEND 24 / 25 OCTOBER 2015

YMCA Under 16s Boys reached the quarter finals of the County Cup in dramatic style at a chilly and overcast Seafield Rd. Preston based Longsands were the visitors and it was obvious from the start that this was going to be a close and hard fought tie. There was nothing to choose between the two teams in the 1st half but minutes before half time Longsands snatched the lead with a low 25yd free kick which eluded everybody as the ball went into the bottom corner. The 2nd half was just as close and it looked like this 1st half goal was going to decide the issue. However with 7 mins remaining YMCA grabbed an equaliser when an Owen Bridge drive could only be parried by the visitors' keeper and Ross Hart was on hand to blast the loose ball into the net. With the game in injury time a penalty shootout looked on the cards until Bridge was brought down in the box and the referee awarded a spot kick which Isaac Eastham coolly slotted home to give YMCA a 2-1 victory to earn them another home tie against Southport FC next month.

Our table topping Under 11s, despite creating numerous early chances, found themselves 0-2 down after 20 mins against title rivals Clifton Wasps at Seafield but a double strike by Thomas Shuttleworth late in the 1st half made it 2-2 at the break. Soon after the restart Shuttleworth netted again to complete his hat trick then a Daniel Slawson strike put us further ahead. A spirited Waps side pulled a goal back but YMCA took the points with a 4-3 victory in a highly entertaining contest. Our 12s boys went down 3-1 to fellow title hopefuls St Annes FC United at Blackpool Rd North. Josh Edwards was our marksman.
