WEEKEND 7/8 MAY 2016

9s ORANGES CLINCH CUP FINAL PLACE - 12s GIRLS HIT HARWOOD FOR SIX - 14s' REVIVAL PROVES IN VAIN

Apart from forthcoming cup finals the regular season in local youth football came to an end this weekend in warm and sunny conditions. On the Saturday at Seafield our 9s Oranges took on Clifton Rangers Bees in the semi finals of the Poulton Primary League's Coulton Cup where we achieved a comprehensive 3-0 victory to clinch a place in the Final. We were on top throughout the 1st half but only led 1-0 at the break with a superbly headed goal by Harvey Barbour. After the restart a goal by Noah Nicholson doubled our lead before victory was sealed with spectacular 25yd strike by Dan Brimble. On the Sunday our 14s played their final league game of the canpaign at BJFF Blades where we trailed 2-0 at the break. When we played the Blades at home earlier in the season we were 3-0 down at half time but in a storming 2nd half revival we bagged five goals to claim a memorable 5-3 victory. A similar story looked on the cards in this return game when goals from Jake Molloy and Spencer Baxendale brought us back level at 2-2 early in the 2nd half but it wasn't to be. Blades soon regained the lead and added another goal in injury time to come out 4-2 winners. Our 12s Girls were at Great Harwood that morning and a hat trick by Isabelle Kells and a double strike by Ellie MacNally helped us to an excellent 6-0 win, Yasmine Menezes also on target.
